Physical therapy making back pain worse?

I've seen other people talking about this, but typically they have injuries or arthritis, and I have neither of the two. Rather, I'm 16 and I've had chronic back pain for years. I went to an orthopedic surgeon, and she told me to take physical therapy, and I did. Granted, it's only been a week, but the pain's gotten to the point that I have only run once the past week, as opposed to my normal almost daily routine, and I can't stand for more than 10 minutes without it reappearing. It's never been like this before. Normally it comes and goes, sometimes debilitating and sometimes just irritating, never constant. I'm not sure if this is normal for chronic back pain, or if it's just being treated incorrectly and is seeking revenge.
