Why are Ashkenazi Jews so clever, and so disease ridden?

They score high on IQ tests because they have cultural advantages. They have a higher incidence of genetic diseases like Tay-Sachs probably because a small group of ancestors picked up mutations along the way. Other groups have a higher incidence of other genetic diseases, like sickle-cell anemia or porphyria.
