Is Bipolar 2 Disorder a serious condition?

Hi guys. I am 23 years old and live in the UK. I have Bipolar 2 Disorder.I suffer from periods of hypomania which is quite mild i would say but also periods of debilitating depressions.Do you think it is a serious condition?Thanks for your time.
